Born on another planet, Mat was sent to earth via a rocket ship by his parents
who thought that their planet was about to be destroyed. Nothing actually
happened, but this gave them much more living space in their apartment. Baby
Mat safely landed in a cornfield, swaddled in a white cloth which later became
his official guru gear. A young childless couple found Mat, but decided that a
baby with a white beard and sunglasses was too much to deal with. Eventually
a half Hindu, half Jewish couple adopted Mat and raised him as a Hinjew.
After studying with a wide variety of spiritual teachers, Mat had a profound
enlightenment experience in 1987. A pigeon pooped on his head, bio-fueling a
paradigm shift from his own little ego to the recognition of a universal
presence much bigger than himself. Mat realized that he didn’t have to be
